"Cascade"

"cascade" is a painting very near to my heart. i like it because of its visual energy and composition. it is one of those paintings that just clicked. if you were to reduce everything in it to basic shapes it would still work well as a painting. it has that "abstract painting" quality to it. i came upon this scene one spring after I had been up to visit split rock in north cheyenne canyon, the runoff was in full swing and I looked over to see the water running through the rocks and saw a painting there. after I painted this I thought, "hey, i should do more stream paintings." however, the new paintings of streams and creeks didn't work. it was then that i realized that the image has as much to do with what's going on in my head and heart as it has to do with finding the right image. now when i go out instead of looking for a type of painting i kind of just let the painting find me. that sounds kind of new ageish but it's just a way of keeping my subjects fresh. at least that's what the cosmic vistitors told me to say. |
