Shadows"
on a hike with my daughter we came down a heavily wooded slope which opened at the bottom to reveal a grassy meadow ringed with willows and aspen. in the middle of the meadow stood these two rocks acting as sentries to the lower part of the valley. the shadows of the aspens on the rocks added a rather ominous aspect to an otherwise pastorale if not slightly odd composition. while "Split Rock" is the first painting to explore my current theme of landscapes, it was this painting which revealed to me the true nature of that theme.
