Elk In The Aspens

Watercolor

13" x 20"

This painting is a spot off the side of horseshoe basin in Rocky Mountain national park. During winter there are less people in the park and you can usually find some really monstrous bull elk running around. They still have their antlers and are somewhat tolerant of having their picture taken.

I really like elk. Something about the dignity they carry with themselves. That tremendous head gear is pretty hard to resist too. It's got the most beautiful shape to it, with just a hint of menace.

When ever I walk up on a bull in the woods I'm always kinda shocked like, "What's he doing here?" I'm sure He's thinking the same thing. That and whether it would be any benefit to him to pound me into the ground.
